SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's soccer team fell to the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) 2-1 in an exhibition match on Sunday at Tom & Gayle Benson Stadium.
Freshman
Jaakko Hietikko scored UTRGV's lone goal on a penalty kick at 58:37.
Senior
Leo Castillo made two saves in the first half while junior
Jorge Medina made three saves in a scoreless second half.
UIW scored both of its goals in the first half, with the first one coming in the opening five minutes from
Ben Conway.
Then, at 29:40,
Robert Pratt passed the ball into the box for
O'Neal Moore who kicked it in with his left foot.
UIW outshot UTRGV 11-to-6, including 7-to-1 on goal.
UTRGV opens the regular season on Friday at 5 p.m. when it faces Fairfield in the Houston Baptist Tournament.
