EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 1-0 overtime loss to Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) on Saturday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
OLLU (4-2-0) scored the game-winner 43 seconds into overtime as Sergio Gonzalez attacked on a breakaway. His shot was stopped by senior Leo Castillo (1-3-1) at the top of the box, but the rebound came loose to Marco Perales, who shot toward the top of the net to end the match.
 
Castillo finished with three saves while Jorge Cavazos (2-1-0) made five saves for the shutout.
 
UTRGV (2-4-1) outshot OLLU 14-10, including 5-4 on goal. UTRGV also attempted eight corner kicks compared to four for OLLU.
 
Sophomore Isaiah Hinds and freshman Juanito Ramirez each had a team-high four shots, including one on goal.
 
UTRGV opens up Western Athletic Conference play on Friday at 7 p.m. against UMKC at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The first 200 fans will receive UTRGV soccer scarves. Gates open at 6.
