Women’s Tennis to Face McNeese State in a Neutral Site Match Saturday

WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team looks for their second win of the season when they face McNeese State University in a neutral site match on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV's (1-0) match against Sam Houston State was cancelled due to heavy rains in the area, which caused the courts to be unplayable.
 
UTRGV was coming off of a 5-2 victory over Prairie View A&M in their season opener.
 
UTRGV swept through doubles before Prairie View tied the match with a win on court six. UTRGV went on to win the next four singles matches as Marine Darzyan, Anastasia Belyaeva, Dominique Esparza and Chloe Leclere clinched the win with wins on their courts.
 
Scouting McNeese State
McNeese State is 0-1 on the season after falling 1-4 to Tulane on Wednesday in their season opener.
 
Hannah Brett posted the lone point for McNeese State as she defeated Tulane's Sade Atkinson 6-4, 6-4 on court three.
 
McNeese State returns five from last year's squad in Brett, Vivien Borbely, Charoline Erlandsson, Giovanna Fioretti and Sarah Jurakova. Brett led the team last year with a 19-3 record while going undefeated in conference play.
 
Jurakova posted the team's second most wins last year with a 16-5 record while Fioretti added 14 wins with a 14-7 record. Erlandsson went 10-8 as a freshman with Borbely adding a 6-5 record.
 
In doubles, Fioretti and Jurakova teamed up to lead McNeese State with an 8-3 record while only one other doubles team had more than three victories which was Erlandsson and the now departed Julia Kral who went 6-5.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 3-7 all-time against McNeese State in a series that dates back to 1996.
 
These two teams faced off last season in Waco where McNeese State came away with the 6-1 victory. Dominique Ibarra posted the lone point for UTRGV.
 
The last time UTRGV defeated McNeese State came back on March 30, 2010 when they picked up the 4-3 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.

UTRGV currently has seven student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the United States of America, France, Macedonia, Mexico, Russia and Spain.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on Sunday when they face Baylor University at 12 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center.
