WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team fell 1-6 in a hard fought match against McNeese State University on Saturday in a neutral site match at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
 
UTRGV (1-1) got a doubles victory on court one as junior Dominique Esparza and freshman Anastasia Belyaeva defeated McNeese State's duo of Giovanna Fioretti and Sarah Jurakova 7-6 but McNeese State won on courts two and three to take the doubles point.
 
In singles, Belyaeva got UTRGV on the board with a straight set 6-4, 6-4 win over Vivien Borbely on court four. UTRGV kept several matches close but McNeese State won on the other five courts to clinch the match.
 
UTRGV opens up their home schedule on January 28 when they host St. Mary's University at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
