WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team closed out their weekend with a 0-4 loss to Baylor University on Sunday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
 
The match was moved indoors due bad weather in the area.
 
In doubles, Baylor (1-0) won on courts two and three to take the doubles point. On court one, the team of Dominique Esparza and Anastasia Belyaeva were leading Theresa Van Zyle and Karina Traxler 5-3 before the match went unfinished.
 
In singles, Baylor won on courts five, one and three to put the match away but UTRGV was leading on two courts before they went unfinished. Sophomore Marine Darzyan picked up the 6-4 victory in the first set against Jessica Hinojosa, who is ranked 117^th in the country, before the match was stopped in the second set.
 
On court four, sophomore Dominique Ibarra won 6-1 in the first set against Karina Traxler and was leading 3-1 in the second set before going unfinished.
 
UTRGV opens up their home schedule on January 28 when they host St. Mary's University at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
