LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team fell to UNLV 3-2 on Friday at Johann Field.
Marco Gonzalez gave UNLV (6-7-0, 3-1-0 WAC) the lead in the 22
nd minute when he blasted a cross from
Timo Mehlich across the mouth of the goal and into the back of the net to put UNLV up 1-0.
UTRGV (4-5-2, 1-3-1 WAC) tied the match nine minutes later when
Ilias Kosmidis scored his fifth goal of the season from eight yards out on a feed by
Dimitris Strantzalis.
UNLV regained the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Mehlich found the left corner of the net after a pass from
Jesus Partida.
Gonzalez added another goal in the 68
th minute when he bent a free kick around a wall of defenders into the top left corner of the net to give UNLV a 3-1 lead.

Arthur Rogers scored on a penalty kick in the 81
st minute to bring UTRGV within one.

Andy Rios (4-4-1) finished with five saves.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Grand Canyon at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
