EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team played No. 18 Seattle U to a 2-2 double overtime draw in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) home opener on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
Seattle U (8-2-1, 2-0-1 WAC) outshot UTRGV (3-4-2, 0-2-1 WAC) 5-0 over the first 43 minutes, but in the 44
th minute, sophomore
Jaakko Hietikko sent a pass to sophomore
Arthur Rogers who scored his first goal.
Medo Youssef scored twice in the opening 12 minutes of the second half, tying the match on a pass from
Habib Barry at 51:00 and then scoring the go-ahead goal five minutes later by taking three consecutive shots on goal, the first two of which rebounded off of sophomore
Esa Aalto (0-1-1).
Aalto finished with a career-high eight saves.
Seattle U held its lead until the 88
th minute, when junior Brownsville Rivera alum
Isidro Martinez collected a rebound off of
Josh Adachi (8-2-1) and deposited it in the back of the net to tie the match at 2.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Utah Valley at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
