EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a 2-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
Graduate student
Andreya Barrera scored the game-winning goal in the 67
th minute when she struck from the center of the box off a pass from junior
Tuva Rolstad Nilsen.
Then, in the 84
th minute, senior
Hana Spets lobbed a pass into the box that freshman
Jada MacLean sent into the far corner of the net to complete the scoring.
Freshman Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (5-2-1) made a season-high seven saves for her career-high fourth shutout of the season.
Jordan Bertram (5-8-1) finished with four saves.
CSU Bakersfield (5-7-1, 0-2-1 WAC) outshot UTRGV (7-5-2, 2-0-0 WAC) 7-6 on goal, although each team attempted 12 total shots.
UTRGV is back in action on Thursday at 9 p.m. at Seattle U.
