DALLAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team fell to Southern Methodist University (SMU) 95-64 on Tuesday at Moody Coliseum.
Senior
Mike Hoffman led UTRGV (3-5) with a season-high 18 points on a career-high five three-pointers to go with a season-high seven rebounds and a season-high three blocks. Senior
Nick Dixon scored 14 points with four assists. Sophomore
Xavier McDaniel Jr. scored 11 points with a career-high three blocks. Freshman
Greg Bowie scored nine points with four rebounds.
Shake Milton led SMU (6-2) with 22 points with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jarrey Foster scored 19 points.
Jimmy Whitt scored 18 points with five rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Ethan Chargois scored 15 points with five rebounds.
McDaniel scored UTRGV's first eight points, using a jumper to tie the game at 2 and three-pointers to keep UTRGV within 7-5 and 12-8 in the opening minutes.
UTRGV was still within single-figures at 17-10 after a jumper by freshman
Javon Levi, but SMU scored the next eight points as part of a 26-7 run to push the game out of reach.
UTRGV is back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. at No. 9 Texas A&M.
