COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team was within sixth with eight and a half minutes remaining before falling to No. 9 Texas A&M 78-60 on Thursday at Reed Arena.
Senior
Nick Dixon led UTRGV (3-6) 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Senior
Dan Kimasa scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go with a season-high eight rebounds and one steal. Freshman
Greg Bowie scored nine points with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
DJ Hogg led Texas A&M (7-0) with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Admon Gilder scored 17 points with five rebounds and four assists.
Tyler Davis scored 13 points with seven rebounds.
Texas A&M scored the first 16 points of the game before junior
Mike Hoffman hit a three-pointer five and a half minutes into the game.
Texas A&M again led by 16 late in the half before a three-pointer by junior
Lew Stallworth and a free throw by freshman
Javon Levi brought UTRGV within 40-28.
Dixon started the second half with a layup and sophomore
Xavier McDaniel Jr. followed with a dunk to cut the deficit to single-figures for the first time at 40-32.
UTRGV got as close as six when a Dixon three-pointer made the score 54-48 with 8:34 remaining, but Texas A&M responded with a 12-2 run to push the game out of reach.
UTRGV is back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Rice.
