KINGSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team hits the road once again to face Texas A&M University -Kingsville on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (1-7) fell 0-7 to UTSA in their lone match last week.
UTSA jumped out to the quick lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. They went on to win singles courts six, one and five to clinch the win.
Freshman
Anastasia Belyaeva and sophomore
Dominique Ibarra worked to take their matches to a tiebreaker before falling in each of their matches.
Scouting Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville is 2-2 on the season as they have picked up wins over Howard Payne and UT Permian Basin.
They will be facing Trinity on Saturday before hosting UTRGV in Kingsville.
Lisa Carvajal leads Texas A&M-Kingsville with a 3-0 dual match record while playing all of her matches at the No. 1 spot. Valerie Ruiz has posted a 3-1 record this spring while mainly playing at the No. 3 spot.
In doubles, Ruiz and V. Romanovskaia lead the team with a 2-2 record while Texas A&M-Kingsville has used seven different doubles combinations.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 9-0 against Texas A&M-Kingsville all-time in a series that dates back to 1988.
These two teams faced off last season as UTRGV came away with the 6-1 victory back on January 31, 2016 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has seven student-athletes on the roster representing six different countries, including the United States of America, France, Macedonia, Mexico, Russia and Spain.
Next Up
UTRGV will return to the Orville Cox Tennis Center for the first of two home matches when they host Lamar University on February 25 at 1:30 p.m.
