KINGSVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team's rally fell short on Sunday as they fell 4-5 to Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-2) grabbed the early advantage as they won on doubles courts two and three to clinch the point. UTRGV (1-8) picked up a point as the team of freshman
Marine Darzyan and sophomore
Dominique Ibarra defeated Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia 8-6 on court one.
In singles, Texas A&M-Kingsville pushed their lead to 3-1 as they picked up a win on court six but UTRGV answered back with three straight wins. Ibarra picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Viviana Ortiz on court four and then it was Darzyan who tied the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Valerie Ruiz on court two.
Freshman
Anastasia Belyaeva gave UTRGV the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Romanovskaia on court three but Texas A&M-Kingsville pulled out wins on courts one and five to clinch the victory.
UTRGV will be back on February 25 when they host Lamar University at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
