EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's tennis team fell at home 2-5 to Lamar University on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, Lamar (4-2) recorded victories on courts three and one to clinch the point, however, it was UTRGV's (1-9) team of Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra who recorded a 7-6 victory over Talisa Merchiers and Stephanie Marchena on court two.
 
In singles, Lamar continued to put pressure on UTRGV as they picked up wins on courts six and five. Dominique Ibarra got UTRGV on the board with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Merchiers on court four.
 
Lamar clinched the win with victories on courts one and two. Dominique Esparza closed out the scoring for UTRGV as she picked up a three set win over Anna Spengler on court two. After falling in the first set, Esparza bounced back with a 7-6 win in the second before picking up the 10-5 win in the tiebreaker.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on Sunday when they host Lamar Sam Houston State at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
