CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men's and women's track and field teams heads to the Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium to compete in the Islander Open on Saturday.
Competition will start at 8 a.m. with the men's and women's hammer throw and the men's and women's 10,000-meter run. The other running events will get started at 2 p.m. with a rolling schedule.
Who Else
Along side UTRGV, the other team competing will be Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with Trinity and Texas A&M-Kingsville sending some athletes to compete in various events.
It will be a dual meet between UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with the results going towards the South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi currently leads the showdown 29-19 after winning the last two events
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has clinched the showdown title with just nine points left on the schedule.
The next South Texas Showdown, Presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union event will be a baseball game at UTRGV Baseball Stadium on Saturday.
Last Time Out
UTRGV kicked off the outdoor season with the Valley Classic Collegiate Meet.
In a dual meet with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTRGV won 10 events on the day.
Antonio Salinas won both the discus and shot put while
Mar Gonzalez won the men's long jump.
Keely Satterfield won the women's long jump and
Jonathan Gaston won the men's triple jump.
On the track,
Jennifer Zapata won the women's 1,500-meter run while
Christian Williams won the men's 110-meter hurdles.
Yariel Matute won both the men's 100 and 200-meter dashes and
Krysta Martinez won the women's 800-meter run.
Next Up
UTRGV will next head to San Antonio for the UIW Quadrangle Meet from March 16-17.
