Baseball Takes Game One of Doubleheader From Seattle U

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team won the series opener over Seattle U 7-6 in 12 innings in game one of a doubleheader on Friday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
 
Junior Noah Lee led UTRGV (19-18, 3-7 WAC) by going a career-best 4-for-6 with his first home run and three RBI.
 
Lee won the game in the 12th with a walk-off single against Connor Moore (1-1).
 
The home run came at the start of the ninth inning with UTRGV down 6-4. UTRGV later tied the game on a one-out single by senior Victor Garcia Jr.
 
Lee also gave UTRGV the lead with a two-out single in the fourth that made it 3-2.
 
Senior Joseph Collazo had a big night as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
 
Collazo came up with the bases loaded and two outs in the first and singled to center to give UTRGV a 2-0 lead. He also scored on Lee's fourth inning single.
 
Graduate student Connor Grant (5-4) picked up the win in relief, pitching the final 4.2 innings, striking out seven while allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks.
 
The runs came in the ninth, when, with the bases loaded and two outs, Griffin Andreychuck hit a grounder up the middle. The ball got stuck in junior shortstop Ivan Estrella's glove, allowing a run to score. Michael Ciancio followed with a walk to put Seattle U (11-20-1, 3-7 WAC) up 6-4.
 
Junior Carter Johnson started for UTRGV, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three in six innings.
 
The runs came in the second on a Chase Wells single and the fourth on a Michael Ciancio single.
 
UTRGV scored its fourth run in the seventh when junior Austin Siener reached on a fielder's choice with runners on the corners.
 
Seattle U, however, tied the game on a two-out two-run double by Curtis Perrin in the eighth.
 
Jack Reisinger led Seattle U by going 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
 
Game two of the doubleheader gets underway at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on American Sports Network and throughout Texas on Spectrum Sports Alt. channel 825.
