EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday that the men's soccer team's matches at the Houston Baptist University Invitational against Bradley and Gonzaga scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., respectively, have been cancelled due to the threat of Tropical Depression Harvey.
Houston is currently under a tropical storm watch and a storm surge watch.
UTRGV is now scheduled to open the season on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. against St. Bonaventure as part of the Rio Grande Valley Invitational at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
September is "Orange Out" for Hunger Action Month, and fans are encouraged to donate five canned food items at the box office.
As a thank you, donors will receive free general admission or an "Orange Out" t-shirt while supplies last. Fans that donate 10 items can receive both.
All donations benefit the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in an effort to fight food insecurity in our community.
UTRGV fans have the chance to take home "Friday Night Fútbol" soccer stress balls at every Friday home match as well.
Houston Baptist faces Omaha in the first match of the day at 4 p.m. Gates open at 3.
