EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team fell to the Houston Dynamo 2-0 in a friendly on Wednesday at H-E-B Park.
UTRGV and the Dynamo played four 20-minute quarters.
UTRGV only allowed the Dynamo one scoring opportunity in the first quarter, but they converted, as
Alberth Elis scored with four seconds remaining in the period.
The Dynamo increased the pressure in the second quarter, but sophomore
Andy Rios made five saves. He finished with 10 saves in the match.
UTRGV had multiple opportunities in the second quarter as well, forcing
Chris Seitz to make four saves. One of those opportunities came in the 28
th minute, when sophomore
Sergio Loredo Jr. had a rebound opportunity sail just wide of the net.
In the 53
rd minute,
Adolfo Machado sent a shot on goal. Rios knocked it away, but
Marcelo Palomino got the rebound and fired the ball into the back of the net to put the Dynamo up 2-0.
UTRGV is back in action on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. against Dynamo affiliate RGV FC at H-E-B Park.
