Women's Soccer Ties Program Record for Wins in a Season With Defeat of Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team tied the program record for most wins in a season with its 10thwin after defeating Chicago State University 2-0 on Friday at Gwendolyn Brooks High School Field.
 
UTRGV (10-5-2, 4-1-1 WAC) ties the win total from the 2016 season with still two matches left in the regular season. UTRGV also ties the program record for most conference wins in a season with its fourth. 
 
Junior Sarah Bonney paced UTRGV with a hand in both goals. With the match scoreless in the second half, Bonney got a penalty kick past Audra Wisehart (0-6-1) at the 58:55 mark for her seventh goal of the season. Bonney's goal proved to be the game-winner, which is her fourth of the season.
 
Bonney then helped sophomore Jada MacLeanadd to the lead as she assisted in MacLean's third goal of the season, which came at the 74:10 mark. 
 
Junior Kinga Szemik(7-5-2) made both goals stand up as she made one save for her third shutout of the season.  
 
UTRGV outshot Chicago State (0-15-1, 0-7 WAC) 27 to 6 and 14 to 1 on goal.
 
UTRGV returns to action on Sunday when it hosts California Baptist at 2 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex for Senior Day. It's also Super Saver Sunday where fans who bring five non-perishable food items will receive free admission.
