EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team tied the program record for wins in a single season after defeating California Baptist University (CBU) 2-1 on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex for its fifth straight victory.
UTRGV (11-4-0, 6-2-0 WAC) picked up its 11
thwin of the season tying the 11 win total from the 1992 season. The win also extended the program's single season record for conference wins in a season to six.
UTRGV trailed CBU (7-8-1, 3-5-0 WAC) 1-0 after a goal by
Preston Juddat the 16:24 mark in the first half.
CBU took that lead into the second half before junior
Kyle Edwards tied it up with his eighth goal of the season at 63:23 mark. Senior
Rooby Dalusma took the ball and sent it forward to junior
Dimitris Strantzalis who found Edwards in front of the goal for the score.
Later in the second half, Edwards was at it again. This time it was junior
Angel Lopez finding Strantzalis who then found Edwards for the second time in the match. Edwards' goal at the 70:46 mark was his ninth of the season and the game-winner.

Andy Rios (8-3) made six saves in the win while CBU goalie
Albert Escuin (5-4-1) made two saves.
UTRGV outshot CBU 13 to 11 with four of those shots coming on goal.
UTRGV will be back in action on Friday, October 26, when it hits the road to face Seattle U at 7 p.m.
