EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team set a new program record for most wins in a season with 11 after defeating California Baptist University (CBU) on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
UTRGV (11-5-2, 5-1-1 WAC) surpasses the win total from 2016 with one more match still to be played. The win also sets a new program record for conference wins in the season with five surpassing last season's total of four.
 
The match was still scoreless late in the second half when UTRGV finally broke through against CBU (11-5-1, 4-4 WAC). At the 84:26 mark, freshmanShentatious Knoxserved up a pass for sophomore Jada MacLean who then lobbed it over CBU goalie Carissa Christensen(4-4) for her fourth goal of the season.
 
Junior Kinga Szemik(8-5-2) faced just one shot on goal making the save for her third shutout of the season.
 
UTRGV outshot CBU 15 to 7 and 7 to 1 on goal. 
 
UTRGV will close out the season on October 27 when it travels to Las Cruces, New Mexico to face New Mexico State at 5 p.m.
