EDINBURG – The Western Athletic Conference announced on Monday that redshirt freshman goalie Maile Lunardi of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team has been named WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Lunardi helped UTRGV to a 2-0 weekend with wins at Grand Canyon and at CSU Bakersfield. She recorded her first-career shutout while making a career-high tying six saves in UTRGV's 3-0 win over Grand Canyon.
 
She followed with four saves against CSU Bakersfield to finish the weekend with 10 saves. 
 
UTRGV returns home to host Seattle U on Sunday, October 14, at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex at 1 p.m.
