OREM, Utah –The third-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team saw its Western Athletic Conference Tournament run come to an end as it fell 2-0 to No. 2 Seattle University in the semifinals on Friday at Clyde Field.
UTRGV (12-6-3) finished the regular season with a program record 12 victories while elevating the program to its best regular season finish in the WAC standings after finishing tied for second.
UTRGV fell behind in the first half after Seattle U (9-7-3) delivered a ball into the box and UTRGV put it into its own goal giving Seattle U the 1-0 lead.
Seattle U took that lead into halftime as both teams took just six shots in the first half.
The score remained the same until the 82:46 mark when
Jessie Raypicked up the loose ball and gave Seattle U the 2-0 lead with her eighth goal of the season putting the match out of reach.
UTRGV was outshot 18 to 10 and were held to just one shot on goal while Seattle U put 12 shots on the mark.
Junior
Kinga Szemik (9-6-3) tied a career-high with 10 saves in the match.
