ARLINGTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team hits the road for two matches starting with University of Texas at Arlington on Friday at 10 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (2-2) is coming off of a double-header sweep of Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M Kingsville on Sunday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
UTRGV beat Prairie View A&M 6-0 after a late start to the match. With singles being played first, UTRGV swept through singles to secure their first win of the season.
Later that day, UTRGV hosted Texas A&M Kingsville and returned the original format of playing doubles first. UTRGV took the doubles point with wins on courts three and two to take the early lead.
UTRGV followed by sweeping singles play and sweeping Texas A&M Kingsville 7-0.
Scouting UT Arlington
This is the first match of the season for UTA after posting an 11-10 record last season.
They return just three back from last season as Carla Cerdan Vives, Agustina Serio and Anna Wickert lead UTA this season.
Wickert went 15-6 overall in singles play and 19-4 in doubles while qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Vives went 10-14 overall and 8-7 in singles dual match play while Serio went 14-3 in singles play while teaming with Valeria Lopez earned first team All-Sun Belt Conference.
UTA brings in five freshmen in Almudena Boza, Momoka Horiguchi, Klara Mrcela, Lucia Natal and Nanaka Takeuchi to help those returners.
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 2-8 all-time against UTA in a series that dates back to 1990.
Last year these two teams met up in Arlington where UTA won 7-0.
The last time UTRGV defeated UTA came back on April 6, 2008 when they picked up the 7-0 victory at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
Next Up
UTRGV will be back in action on Sunday, February 4, when they head to Fort Worth to face No. 25 TCU at 2 p.m.
