EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team posted three two-run innings to beat Stephen F. Austin (SFA) 6-4 on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium during day two of the Al Ogletree Classic.
After coming up with the walk-off single in his first UTRGV (2-0) at-bat on Friday, sophomore
Elijah Alexander went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and one run scored. Junior
Anthony Gomez posted his second-career four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with one run scored. Sophomore
Tyler Torres finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Down 1-0 in the first, UTRGV took an immediate lead on an RBI-double by junior
Aaron Dees and an RBI-single by Alexander.
Torres came up with a two-run single in the third to extend UTRGV's lead to 4-1.
SFA (0-2) scored once in the fifth on a
Nick Daley single and twice in the sixth on a
Josh Campbell home run to tie the game.
In the seventh, however, Alexander launched a two-run home run off of
Jesus Gamez (0-1) to give UTRGV the lead.
That made a winner of junior
Chase Adams (1-0), who struck out seven in seven innings while scattering seven hits and two walks.
Junior McAllen Memorial alum
Juan Carreon II struck out one in two scoreless innings of relief for his first save.
UTRGV faces Central Michigan at 3 p.m.
