Women's Tennis Returns Home to Face UTSA Saturday

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team is set to host the University of Texas at San Antonio on Saturday at 1 p.m. the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV (2-4) fell 0-4 to TCU in Fort Worth as it wrapped up a two-match road trip.
 
TCU took the doubles point and then won on singles courts 4, 3, and 1 to clinch the win.
 
Dominique Ibarra took the first set against 59th ranked Aleksandra Zenovka 6-3 but the match was stopped in the second set when the fourth point was clinched in the match.
 
Scouting UTSA
UTSA is 3-1 on the season after defeating Incarnate Word last time out. They also have wins over Stephen F. Austin and Prairie View A&M while their lone loss came against Sam Houston State.
 
Laura Cabrera is a perfect 4-0 in singles while playing all of her matches at the No. 5 spot. Sonia Madronal and Charlie Tiwari are both 3-1 in singles while Madronal has played her matches at the No. 6 spot and Tiwari has played at both the No. 3 and No. 4 spots.
 
Overall, UTSA is 13-11 in singles play while posting a 3-7 record in doubles. Cabrera and Madronal have teamed up for a 1-1 record while Tiwari and Ivana Ilic have posted a 1-1 record as well. Madronal posted another win with Denisa Ibrahimovic at the No. 2 spot.
 
All three wins for UTSA have come on the road.
 
The All-Time Series
UTRGV is 3-25 against UTSA all-time in a series that dates back to 1986 and have lost seven in a row to them.
 
Both teams faced off last season and it was UTSA that came away with the 7-0 win in San Antonio.
 
The last time UTRGV defeated UTSA came on March 14, 2010 when they picked up the 4-2 victory at Cimarron Country Club.
 
Globetrotters
UTRGV currently has eight student-athletes on the roster representing seven different countries, including the Macedonia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, India, Germany and Denmark.
 
Next Up
UTRGV will back in action on February 13 when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. in Corpus Christi.
