MESA, Ariz. – The fifth seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team opens up the Western Athletic Conference Tournament when it faces No. 4 Seattle U on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Mesa Tennis Center.
Last Time Out
UTRGV (10-12, 1-4 WAC) closed out its regular season with a 3-4 loss to Seattle U back on April 15 in the second WAC Cluster of the season.
UTRGV grabbed the early 1-0 lead after taking two matches in doubles. Dennis Boisseau and Mateo Schmit won on court one and then it was
Yehonatan Kaufman and
Elliot Johnstone clinching the point on court two.
In singles, Kaufman added to UTRGV's lead with win on court two.
UTRGV forced three sets on four of the last five courts but dropped matches on courts three, four, six and one as Seattle pulled out the victory.
Zane Kohrs closed out the match with a win on court five.
Scouting Seattle U
Seattle U finished the regular season 10-12 and 2-3 in conference play this season after defeating UTRGV in its final match of the WAC cluster.
Seattle U posted a 63-69 record in singles play this season while Colton Weeldreyer leads the team with 11 victories this season. Emilio Monroy and Arshak Ghazaryan each have won 10 and Jeremiah Kalmus has added nine wins.
In doubles, Seattle U is 25-36 on the season with Monroy and Khzaryan lead the way with six victories. Seattle U has used 15 doubles this spring with just one team winning more than three matches.

UTRGV is 5-1 against Seattle U all-time in a series that dates back to 1980.
Seattle U pulled out the victory over UTRGV with a tight 4-3 win back on April 15.
UTRGV's loss to close out the regular season was the first-ever loss to Seattle U.
