ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team lost its first road match of the season falling 1-0 to Abilene Christian University (ACU) in overtime at Elmer Gray Stadium on Friday.
UTRGV (1-2-0) and ACU (2-0-0) headed into overtime still looking for the match's first goal when at 92:14
Dylan Owens took the pass from
Chelsea Reedy to score the match winner.
UTRGV had its chances as it outshot ACU15-14 with eight of the shots going on goal compared to ACU's six shots on goal. One of those shot on goal came towards the end of regulation when sophomore
Jada MacLean took a shot at 89:19 but ACU goalie
Rachel Johnson (2-0-0) denied the attempt.
Junior
Kinga Szemik (1-2-0) finished the match with five saves on the match with Johnson making eight saves of her own.
UTRGV returns to the pitch on Sunday when it faces UTEP at 2 p.m. at University Field.
