CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team won its third straight match with a 2-1 victory over the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) on Thursday at Bill Stephens Complex.
UTRGV (4-2) took the early lead as junior
Arthur Rogers took a penalty kick and converted for his first goal of the season and the first of the match at the 29:37 mark.
Central Arkansas (2-2-1) answered back later in the first half.
Ole Kjoerholt took the pass off of a free kick and headed it home for the match-tying goal at 38:46 into the first half.
It was a pretty even first half as UTRGV outshot Central Arkansas 7-6 and 3-2 on goal.
In the second half, UTRGV didn't' waste much time as senior
Isidro Martinez gave UTRGV the 2-1 lead just 4:30 into the second half. Martinez finished off a pass from junior
Kyle Edwardsfor his first goal of the season.
With the clock running down, UCA put pressure on UTRGV but junior goalie
Andy Rios (4-2) made one final save with just 10 seconds left in the match. Rios tied a career-high with five saves on the night.
UTRGV will wrap up this road trip on Tuesday when it travels to Jacksonville, Florida to face Jacksonville University at 6 p.m.
