OREM, Utah – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's soccer team saw its five-match win streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to Utah Valley University (UVU) on Thursday at Clyde Field.
UTRGV (6-3, 1-1 WAC) fell behind early in the match as UVU (4-5-0, 1-1 WAC) converted on a penalty kick 5:40 into the match.
Blake Frischnecht knocked in the penalty kick for his third goal of the season stopping UTRGV's shutout streak at 236:54.
UTRGV answered back with a goal at 19:04 as junior
Kyle Edwards notched his fourth goal of the season. Junior
Arthur Rogers started the play with a quick pass to junior
William Akio who found a streaking Edwards with a quick one-touch pass.
Later in the first half, UVU got another goal from Frischknecht at 29:13, which ended up being the game-winner.
Andy Rios (5-3) finished the night with three saves.
UTRGV outshot UVU 10-8 but were outshot on goal 2-5, with both shots on goal coming in the first half.
UTRGV will be back in action on Saturday when it faces No. 8 Air Force at 2 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
