EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to rally past Utah Valley University (UVU) 3-1 on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex for its first Western Athletic Conference victory of the season.

UTRGV kept the pressure on UVU with nine of its 20 shots coming in the second half. After a penalty on UVU, freshman
Emily Zapata took a free kick at 64:13 and scored her seventh goal of the season. Zapata's goal ended up being the game-winner, her fourth of the season.
UTRGV put the match away with its third goal as junior
Sarah Bonney converted on a penalty kick at 76:39 for her sixth goal of the season.
Junior
Kinga Szemik (6-5-1) recorded three saves in the match.
UTRGV outshot UVU 20-15 and 9-4 on goal.
UTRGV will hit the road to continue WAC play as it faces Grand Canyon on October 5 at 9 p.m.
