WACO – Freshmen Nethmi Waduge and Sandra Putz recorded singles victories for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team as it fell 2-5 to Baylor University on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (0-2) fell behind in the match after dropping the doubles point. 
 
In singles, Waduge defeated Baylor's (1-1) Katelyn Parker in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at singles spot No. 5 for her first dual match singles victory of her career.
 
Putz, who was making her spring collegiate debut, also won in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stephanie Adames at singles spot No. 6.
 
Baylor won in straight sets on the other four singles court to clinch the win.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on February 4 when it travels to Corpus Christi to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, at 2 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
