HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team wrapped up its three-match weekend with a 0-4 loss to Rice University on Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
 
Rice (4-0) got out to the early 1-0 lead over UTRGV (2-3) as it won doubles matches on courts two and three. The team of senior Yehonatan Kaufman and freshman George Hutchings were up 4-3 against Sumit Sukar and Jacob Eskeland on court one when the match was stopped due to the doubles point being clinched.
 
In singles, Rice won in straight sets on courts three, one and six to clinch the win. Freshman Samuel de Felipe Garcia won his opening set against Eric Rutledge on court two and was up 4-3 in the second set when his match was stopped.
 
Freshman Georgije Babic was in the third set with Mohamed Abdel-Aziz on court six as it went unfinished. Babic fell 2-6 in the first set before battling back with a 7-6 win in the second and was tied 1-1 in the third.
 
Freshman George Hutchings was also in the third set on court five against Adam Oscislawski. Hutchings won 6-2 in the first set before falling 3-6 in the second and was trailing 2-3 in the third.
 
UTRGV will be back on February 3 when it travels to Waco to face No. 11 Baylor at 2:30 p.m.
