Women's Tennis Ready for Pair of Match Saturday with Abilene Christian and No. 21 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team is set for a pair of matches on Saturday as it faces off against Abilene Christian and No. 21 Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV will face Abilene Christian at 10 a.m. and then will face Texas A&M at 2 p.m.
 
All-Time Series
  • UTRGV is 1-8 all-time against Abilene Christian in a series that dates back to 1988.
  • Both teams last faced off on Mar. 5, 2011 as it was Abilene Christian won 6-1.
  • UTRGV last beat Abilene Christian on Nov. 11, 1989 when it won 5-4 in a neutral site match.
  • UTRGV is 0-2 all-time against Texas A&M in a series that dates back to 2007.
  • The last time both teams faced off was on Jan. 13, 2018 as it was Texas A&M won 7-0.
Scouting ACU
  • ACU is 3-5 on the season.
  • ACU is coming off of a 5-2 win over Tarleton State yesterday. 
  • Opened the season with four straight losses with the two other victories coming against Cameron, and Stetson.
  • ACU is 18-30 in singles play this spring with Jordan Henry leading the way with a 5-3 record. Autumn Bellow, Nini Memishishi, Ileana Mocciola, and Allison Stewart each have three singles victories apiece. 
  • In doubles, ACU is 10-11 with a pair of teams recording three victories. Sarah Adams and Memishishi have a 3-2 record and Bellow and Mocciola have posted a 3-5 record. 
Scouting Texas A&M
  • Texas A&M is 9-1 on the season.
  • Texas A&M is ranked No. 21 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
  • Texas A&M started the season on an eight-game win streak before falling to 3-4 to Illinois on Feb. 14.
  • Wins have come against Utah, Grand Canyon, UTSA, Houston, UNLV, Lamar, TCU, Prairie View A&M, and Oklahoma.
  • Is 6-0 at home this season.
  • Jayci Goldsmith and Riley McQuaid lead the team with a 9-1 record as Texas A&M is a combined 48-9 in singles play this spring.
  • In doubles, Texas A&M is 19-4 with Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova pacing the team with a 7-1 record. They have used just four doubles teams thus far. 
Last Weekend
  • UTRGV fell 0-4 in both of its matches last weekend against TCU and UT Arlington.
  • UTRGV's duo of Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra were up 6-5 in their doubles match with Kate Paulus and Mercedes Aristegui before it was stopped. 
  • After dropping her first set to Aleksa Cveticanin, Esparza was up 4-3 in the second as her match was stopped when the match was clinched.
  • Darzyan and Ibarra picked up the only doubles win of the weekend after defeating UTA's Lucia Natal and Nanaka Takeuchi 7-6 on court one. 
  • After dropping her first set to Carla Vives, Sandra Putz was up 4-2 in the second set before it was stopped when the match was clinched.
