COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak with a 4-3 victory over Abilene Christian University (ACU) on Saturday in a neutral site match.
 
It's the first win over ACU for the program since 1989 and just the second victory in the all-time series. UTRGV (2-5) fell behind early on as ACU (4-6) took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. 
 
In singles, UTRGV battled back to clinch the win. Senior Dominique Ibarra posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Nini Memishishi on court one to get things rolling for UTRGV.
 
Senior Michelle Walkeropened her match with Autumn Bellow with a 6-0 win in the first set. After falling 2-6 in the second, Walker rallied back to win 7-6 in the third for the win.
 
Freshman Nethmi Wadugewent three sets against Allison Stewart. Waduge fell 2-6 in the first set but answered with a 6-3 win in the second forcing a third set where she won 6-3 to seal her victory. 
 
Freshman Sandra Putz won her match with Ileana Mocciola in straight sets with a 6-0, 7-6 victory on court six. ACU won on courts two and four but it wasn't enough as UTRGV held on for the win.
