EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Lamar University at 11 a.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
All-Time Series
- UTRGV is 8-19 all-time against Lamar.
- UTRGV defeated Lamar 5-2 in last season's lone matchup.
- The win snapped a nine-match losing streak to Lamar that dated back to the 2002 season.
Scouting Lamar
- Lamar is 1-6 on the season and have lost its last two matches.
- Lamar's lone win on the season came against UTSA after defeating them 4-3 on Jan. 31.
- Lamar is 11-31 in singles play this spring.
- Bianca Vitale is the only player with a winning record so far this season as she sports a 4-3 record with all her matches coming at the No. 2 spot. No one else has more than two wins.
- In doubles, Lamar is 1-15 with the team of Jasmin Buchta and Amelie Vossgaetter coming through with the win.
Last Time Out
- UTRGV fell 2-5 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road.
- UTRGV won on doubles courts two and three to take the point.
- Doris Aleksovska and Michelle Walker defeated Kei Kato and Camille Townsend 6-4.
- Sandra Putz and Katarina Sasaroga beat Vanessa Reinicke and Maria Maldonado 6-0.
- Dominique Ibarra won on court one in singles play for UTRGV's second point of the match. It was her first singles win this spring.
Confidence is Still High
- UTRGV is 0-3 on the season after falling to Sam Houston State, Baylor, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- UTRGV is 3-15 in singles play but 6-2 in doubles play.
- Aleksovska and Walker and Putz and Sasaroga are both 2-0 on the season.
- UTRGV knows that it's a tough non-conference schedule but is working to be at its best for WAC play.
"The mood has been pretty positive," Hahn said. "Our returnees have gone through this so they know understand what it is and it's not fun for them. They understand that the non-conference is what prepares them for conference play. We talk so much about progress and no so much of the results. For them it's about the big picture so they keep plugging away."
