EDINBURG– The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team dropped a tough match 2-5 to the University of Houston on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
 
UTRGV (2-7) came out of the gates determined to take the early lead in doubles. Seniors Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra came away with the 6-4 win over Ndini Nduna and Sophie Gerits on court one. 
 
Then it was the team of freshmen Sandra Putzand Katarina Sasaroga clinching the point with a 6-4 win over Phonexay Chitdaraon court three.
 
Houston (6-4) answered back in singles as it won on courts two, six, five and three to clinch the win.
 
Ibarra gave UTRGV its second point of the match as she defeated Nduna 6-3, 6-4 on court one. Ibarra has now won four straight matches to improve to 4-2 on the season. 
 
Houston closed out the scoring with a win on court four.
 
UTRGV will be back in action on March 11 when it hosts Laredo Community College at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
