AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's outdoor track & field team broke the program record for the distance medley relay at the 92^nd annual Clyde Little Field Texas Relays on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
 
The team of juniors Sierra Spinler and Ashley Hughes and freshmen Kyra Keurentjes and Dorcas Koech finished in a time of 12:16.91, breaking the previous record of 12:20.57 set two years ago.
 
Four other relay teams recorded performances ranked among the top five in program history.
 
On the women's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of senior Destiny Rutherford, Hughes, freshman Zarrey Sams and junior Keely Satterfield finished in a time of 47.78, the fourth-best in program history, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Rutherford, Keurentjes, freshman Harlingen alum Jasmyn Tullochand Hughes finished in a time of 3:50.89, the fifth-best in program history.
 
On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Ronnie Ollivierre, freshman Yashawn Hamilton, freshman Maxime Gardes and freshman Mariano Hernandez finished in a time of 42.06, the third-best in program history, while the distance medley relay team of senior Sharyland alum Brian Yanez, junior Brandon Sanders, freshman Brownsville Veterans Memorial alum Max Carmona and senior Omer Almog finished in a time of 10:14.79, also the third-best in program history.
 
Individually, freshman Samariae Bonds recorded the eighth-best shot put in program history with a throw of 13.94 meters.
 
UTRGV competes in two more events on Saturday, including the women's discus at 10 a.m. and 4x800-meter relay at 10:40.
