BROWNSVILLE – The fourth-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's tennis team is set to compete at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament starting on Friday at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
UTRGV opens against No. 5 Chicago State at 9 a.m. with the winner moving on to face top-seeded Grand Canyon on Saturday at 9 a.m.
All-Time Series
- UTRGV is 8-2 against Chicago State in a series that dates back to 2009.
- UTRGV defeated Chicago State this season 6-1 to open WAC play.
- UTRGV is 3-4 all-time against Grand Canyon in a series that dates back to 2014.

- The two WAC wins this season came against Seattle U and New Mexico State.
Scouting Grand Canyon
- Grand Canyon is the No. 1 seed heading into the WAC Tournament with a 4-1 record.
- GCU has an overall record of 9-8 on the season.
- The only loss in WAC play came against UTRGV.
- GCU had three players in Celia Morel, Celina Buhr, and Martina Lo Pumo who were named to the All-WAC First Team while Emilia Occhipinti earned All-WAC Second Team honors in singles.
- Morel and Autumn Prudhomme earned All-WAC First Team honors in doubles with Occhipinti and Buhr earning All-WAC Second Team honors.
- Coach Gregory Prudhomme was named the WAC Coach of the Year.
- GCU went 48-52 in singles play and 22-23 in doubles play.
Scouting Kansas City
- UMKC finished with the third seed in the WAC Tournament after finishing with a 3-2 record.
- UMKC has an overall 10-11 record.
- Yana Grechkina earned Second Team All-WAC honors in singles with a 3-2 WAC record.
- UMKC finished 49-52 in singles play this season and 16-40 record in doubles play.
- Katie Fries and Riddhi Sharma each won nine matches in singles play to lead the team.
Scouting Seattle U
- Seattle U finished as the sixth seed in the WAC Tournament after going 0-5 in WAC play.
- SU posted a 6-15 overall record.
- SU posted a 46-69 record in singles play with a 27-32 record in doubles.
- Hannah Gianan led the way in singles with a 10-10 record.
- Gianan and Lily-Ana Kreutzer teamed to lead the team with a 6-4 record.
Scouting New Mexico State
- New Mexico State finished as the No. 2 seed with a 3-2.
- NMSU finished with an overall 13-9 record.
- Bhargavi Kalagaearned All-WAC First Team honors in singles with a 4-0 record while Harsha Challa earned Second Team All-WAC honors with a 3-2 record.
- NMSU had two selections for Second Team All-WAC in doubles with Chloe Gavino and Rebecca Keijzerwaard and the team of Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio. Both finishing 11-4 on the season.
- NMSU finished with a 61-56 record in singles and 36-22 record in doubles.
- Challa led the team with a 13-5 singles record.
Last Time Out
- UTRGV closed out the regular season with a 4-3 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.
- UTRGV swept through doubles to take the early 1-0 lead with Sandra Putz and Katarina Sasaroga clinching the point with a 7-5 win on court three.
- Dominique Ibarra extended her win streak to 13 in a row with a victory on court one over Thep Philavong.
- Michelle Walker picked up a victory on court three over Laura Montalvo.
- Nethmi Waduge clinched the victory with a win over Valerie Ruiz on court five.
WAC Honors
- Dominique Ibarra was named WAC Player of the Year after finishing WAC play with a 5-0 record.
- Ibarra has now won 13 in a row and has not lost since January 19 and also earned First Team All-WAC honors.
- Ibarra and Marine Daryzan were named to the First Team All-WAC in doubles with a 4-1 record.
- Nethmi Waduge earned First Team All-WAC honors with a 4-1 record.
Moving Up the All-Time List
- Dominique Ibarra currently has 64 career singles victories and 53 career doubles victories.
- Her 64 career singles victories rank her tied for second with Leah Viloria (1988-91) behind Ellen Nelissen (1991-95), who has 67 career singles victories.
- She is the program all-time leader in overall career wins with 117 victories.
