ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is set to kick off the spring dual match season Sunday when it faces Abilene Christian University at 9 a.m. at the Teague Special Events Center.
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV wrapped up the fall semester at the Bearkat Invitational in late October. 
• Sandra Putz won the Flight C Singles Championship to close out the Bearkat Invitational
• Putz defeated Tyler Junior College's Momoko Yoshimura in three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 10-1.
• The Vaqueros added three wins on the final day of the Bearkat Invitational with Putz teaming with Katarina Sasaroga to defeat Tyler Junior College's Helena Jansen/Emelie Schwarte, and Alicia Thal teamed with Tyler Junior College's Ye Yue to pick up a doubles win.

 
All-Time Series Against Abilene Christian

• UTRGV is 2-8 all-time against Abilene Christian in a series dating back to 1988.
• These two teams met last met on February 23, 2019 when the Vaqueros came away with the 4-3 victory on the road.
• Last season's win snapped a seven-match losing streak to Abilene Christian.
• The first win against Abilene Christian came on November 11, 1988 winning 5-4 in San Antonio.

 
Scouting Abilene Christian

• ACU is 0-2 on the season.
• Losses for Abilene Christian have come against Oklahoma State and Wichita State.
• The only point of the season for Abilene Christian came at the No. 6 singles spot where Claire Fisher defeated Natsumi Kurahashi.
•  Abilene Christian's roster features four that UTRGV faced last year with Sarah Adams, Nini Memishishi, Ileana Mocciola, and Allison Stewart. 
• Abilene Christian will also be facing SMU after facing UTRGV on Sunday.
