CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team fell 0-7 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on Wednesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Vaqueros (0-4) now trail the Islanders (5-0) 25-14 in the showdown standings.
The Islanders took the early advantage in the match as it won at doubles No. 1 and 3. The match at No. 2 doubles was stopped when the doubles point was clinched.
Sophomore
Ana Platisa took her match against Carolina Bulatovic at the No. 4 singles before falling in the tiebreaker. Platisa opened with a 6-1 victory in the first set before falling 3-6 in the second. The tiebreaker went back and forth but Platisa fell 8-10.
The Islanders won on the other five singles matches to clinch the win.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Beaumont to face Lamar at 1 p.m.
The next matchup in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union will be a men's tennis match on Feb. 5 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
