BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team continues its season-opening stretch of road matches as it faces Lamar University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
 
Last Time Out

• UTRGV fell 0-7 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
• Ana Platisa took her match against Carolina Bulatovic to three sets as she fell 6-1, 3-6, 8-10.
• It was the fourth-straight road match to start off the season.

 
All-Time Series Against Lamar

• UTRGV is 9-19 all-time against Lamar.
• The series dates back to 1989.
• Both teams faced off last season with UTRGV winning 4-3 on Feb. 10, 2019 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
• Last five matches vs. Lamar: W 4-3 (Feb. 10, 2019), W 5-2 (Feb. 17, 2018), L 2-5 (Feb. 25, 2017), L 0-7 (Mar. 24, 2012), L 0-7 (Mar. 26, 2009).

 
Last Time vs. Lamar

• UTRGV picked up the 4-3 victory for its first victory of the season. 
• UTRGV took the 1-0 lead after picking up victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches.
• After dropping the match at No. 6 singles, Dominique Ibarra gave UTRGV the 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jasmin Buchta at the No. 1 spot.
• Trailing 2-3 after falling at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Nethmi Waduge came through with the 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Natalia Molina at No. 5 singles tying the match.
• After falling 4-6 in the first set, Marine Darzyan followed with a 6-4 win in the second and a 6-4 win in the third against Laura Sola to give UTRGV the win. 

 
Scouting Lamar

• Lamar is 1-2 on the season.
• Lamar recorded its first win of the season after defeating Dallas Baptist 6-1 on Jan. 26.
• Lamar's two losses on the season came against Rice on Jan. 19 and against North Texas on Jan. 25.
• Lamar returns six from last season's squad including Sanja Jolic and Bianca Vitale who recorded double-digit singles victories. 
• Lineup last time out: No. 1 Jasmin Buchta, No. 2 Bianca Vitale, No. 3 Sanja Jolic, No. 4 Natalie Molina, No. 5 Laura Sola Grau, No. 6 Jayci Wong.
