RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque announced on Monday that the contract of men's soccer head coach Paul Leese will not be renewed following its expiration in December.
 
Leese compiled an overall record of 40-41-9 and a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) mark of 22-24-6 over five years.
 
"We have carefully reviewed our men's soccer program and determined it is in the best interest of the program to seek new leadership," Conque said. "We thank Coach Leese for his efforts on behalf of the UTRGV men's soccer team. We wish him well personally and professionally moving forward."
 
A national search to fill the position will begin immediately.
 
UTRGV's yearly records over the past five years:
2019: 8-6-2, 4-5-2 WAC
2018: 14-6-0, 8-3-0 WAC
2017: 7-7-3, 4-4-2 WAC
2016: 6-10-3, 4-4-2 WAC
2015: 5-12-1, 2-8-0 WAC
 
The UTRGV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will have no further comment until the next coach is hired.
