NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team dropped a close match to the University of New Orleans falling 2-5 on Sunday at University Tennis Center.
UTRGV (3-8) fell behind early in the match as it dropped the doubles point. New Orleans (6-2) opened with wins at No. 3 and 1 doubles for the 1-0 lead.
In singles, New Orleans added wins at the No. 6, 1, and 3 spots to clinch the victory but UTRGV took the other three matches to three sets.
Sophomore
Samuel de Felipe Garcia converted his three-set match against Max Heinzel into a victory. De Felipe Garcia opened with a 7-5 win in the first set before falling 3-6 in the third. In the tiebreaker, de Felipe Garcia dominated with a 10-4 for his fifth win of the season.
Sophomore
George Hutchings also converted his three-set match into a win as he opened his match with Johannes Klein with a 7-5 win in the first. After falling 4-6 in the second, Hutchings and Klein went back and forth in the tiebreaker before Hutchings won 10-8.
Junior
Zane Kohrs opened his three-set match with Espen Lagarde with a 2-6 loss but answered with a 6-3 win in the second. It was a close tiebreaker but Kohrs fell 6-10 to close out the match.
UTRGV will be back in action on Monday when it faces Alcorn State in a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m. at the Alcorn State Tennis Courts.
