LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team swept a doubleheader with Alcorn State University 5-2 and 5-0 on Monday at the Alcorn Tennis Courts.
 
UTRGV (5-8) opened the first match by taking the doubles point from Alcorn State (2-13). After taking the match on at the No. 3 spot by default, UTRGV got a win at No. 2 doubles with a win from junior Zane Kohrs and sophomore George Hutchings as they defeated Lucas Dini and Santiago Rocca 6-3. 
 
In single, a win at the No. 6 spot added to UTRGV's lead while it added wins at the No. 2, 4, and 5 spots. Sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia posted the win at the No. 2 spot as he beat Stojan Stojanovski 6-1, 7-6. 
 
Hutchings didn't drop a game against Kareem Bowe at the No. 4 spot as he won 6-0, 6-0 and it was Kohrs who added a win at the No. 5 spot by defeating Rocca 6-2, 6-0. Alcorn State picked up points with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. 
 
Play started with singles in the second match of the day. UTRGV had the advantage early as Alcorn State was only able to put four in the singles lineup. 
 
De Felipe Garcia continued his dominant play as he defeated Lucas Dini 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Hutchings moved up into the No. 3 spot and delivered the three-set victory over Rocca as he dropped the first set 4-6 but won 6-1 and 11-9 in the second and the tiebreaker. 
 
Alberto Mello saw his first action of the day as he picked up the 6-2, 6-0 win over Kareem at the No. 4 spot
 
UTRGV will next be in action on Friday when it returns home to host UIW at the Orville Cox Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
