CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 1-4 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center to close out the H-E-B Tournament of Champions.
The Islanders (11-1) won doubles matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots to take the 1-0 lead after doubles.
UTRGV (3-6) picked up a point at the No. 1 singles spot where redshirt junior
Carlo Izurieta defeated Ryuya Ata. After falling 3-6 in the first set, Izurieta won 6-2 in the second and 6-2 in the third for the win.
The Islanders won at the No. 2, 4, and 5 spots to clinch the win with the other matches going unfinished.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Feb. 27 when it heads to Houston to face Rice at 10 a.m.
