SEATTLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the University of Washington Huskies 3-2 in seven innings in the regularly scheduled game on Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
The game was scheduled to last seven innings because the Vaqueros (2-3) and Huskies (2-3) had to play four innings to complete Friday's game earlier in the day.
Senior
Kevin Stevens (0-2) pitched a complete game, striking out six in six innings while allowing three runs on six hits and one walk.
The Huskies scored twice in the third, getting runs on a
Braiden Ward sacrifice fly and a
Noah Hsue double.
The Vaqueros tied the game in the fifth on a double by graduate student
Elijah Alexander and a single by junior Vela alum
RJ Ochoa.
The Vaqueros finished with three doubles among their five hits, as graduate student
Andy Atwood and postbaccalaureate student
Christian Sepulveda also doubled. Sepulveda scored on Alexander's double.
In the bottom of the fifth, a
Will Simpson sacrifice fly gave the Huskies the lead.
Davis Delorefice (1-0) pitched a perfect inning of relief for the win.
Adam Bloebaum retired all five hitters he faced for the save.
UTRGV and Washington play game three of this four-game series on Sunday at 6 p.m. on Pac-12 Plus.
