SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field got off to a good start in the combined events at the UTSA Invitational on Thursday at the Park West Athletics Complex.
 
Graduate student Aviana Goode broke the program record for the 100-meter hurdles for the second-straight meet, placing third with a time of 13.96. She also tied for the fifth-best high jump in program history with a mark of 1.66 meters, good for second place. Goode added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.25.
 
Sophomore Uxia Pereira led the Vaqueros in the shot put by finishing sixth with a mark of 9.45 meters.
 
Overall, Goode leads the Vaqueros in the heptathlon with 2,970 points, good for fourth place out of 10 competitors. Kansas State's Lauren Taubert leads the field with 3,430 points.
 
On the men's side, graduate student Palmview alum Anthony Magallon leads the Vaqueros by ranking third out of 15 with 3,654 points. Magallon won two of the five events, including the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.90 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.34. Magallon also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.98 meters, fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.83 meters, and fifth in the shot put at 10.76 meters.

Freshman Mission Veterans alum Alex Galvan led the Vaqueros in the shot put by coming in third at 12.40 meters.
 
Kansas State's Matas Adamonis leads the field with 3,804 points.
 
Action resumes Friday at 10 a.m. in the decathlon and heptathlon. Field events get underway at 2 p.m. with track events following at 8 p.m.
