RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team fell to the Utah Valley University Wolverines 6-5 in 11 innings in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.

Spenser Triplett (1-2).
In extra innings, each team started with a runner at second base.
The Wolverines (6-22, 4-11 WAC) took the lead in the top of the 10

Devin Smith recorded the save by getting a game-ending double play.
The Vaqueros initially broke through in the fifth, as with one out, senior
Jacob Hirsh singled, stole second and moved to third on an error before freshman PSJA alum
Jacob Sanchez walked to put runners on the corners. Then, with Sanchez in motion, forcing second baseman
Mitch Moralez to break toward the bag, Sepulveda hit a liner where Moralez had previously been standing. The ball landed in right field for an RBI-single. After a walk loaded the bases, senior
Conrado Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.
Sepulveda finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.
That's where the score stayed until the eighth. Graduate student
Kevin Palm had pitched three scoreless innings of relief, but with
Garrett Broussard on first and nobody out, Moralez reached on an infield single. The throw to first sailed away, allowing Broussard to score and Moralez to advance to third. Moralez scored on a two-out error to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead.
The Wolverines initially got on the board in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Brandon Luna.
