EL PASO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is set to face the UTEP Miners in its final regular season non-conference match on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the El Paso Tennis Club.
The Vaqueros last played in a match on April 4.
Last Time Out
UTRGV fell 3-4 to Prairie View A&M in its home finale.
The Vaqueros got off to a strong start earning the doubles point against the Panthers.
Sandra Putz and
Valeria Montero teamed up to defeat Jimena Duran-Castellanos and Salma Sanchez Villalobos 6-2 on court two.
Ana Platisa and
Kristyna Mamicova then defeated Annette Lira and Ruju Chauhan 6-3 on court three for the point.
In singles, Platisa extended UTRGV's lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Duran-Castellanos at the No. 2 spot. The Panthers answered with their first point after a win at the No. 6 spot.
Putz made it 3-1 with a 6-1, 7-6 victory at the No. 3 spot over Chauhan. The Panthers rallied in the final three matches to clinch the win.
Facing UTEP
- UTEP is 4-6 on the season.
- UTEP is coming off of a 4-1 win over New Mexico State in Las Cruces.
- It's other three wins on the season came against UNLV, UT Permian Basin, and UT Tyler.
- UTEP has seen five of its matches canceled this season.
- UTEP is 22-28 in singles play while posting a 12-14 record in doubles.
- Veronkia Lebisova and Erandi Martinez lead UTEP with five singles victories.
- Lebisova and Thassane Abrahim lead the team with five doubles wins.
