Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season at Final WAC Cluster

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team closes out the regular season with a pair of matches in the final Western Athletic Conference cluster, hosted by New Mexico State, starting on Friday at the NMSU Tennis Center. 
 
The Vaqueros will play Seattle U on Friday at 2 p.m. and then close out the season against Dixie State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
UTRGV fell 0-4 to UTEP to close out its non-conference portion of the schedule. 
 
The Vaqueros (3-16) opened up doubles with a win at the No. 2 spot as the team of Valeria Montero and Lea Karren picked up the 6-2 win over Vanessa Valdez and Lina Sachica. 
 
The Miners answered with back-to-back win at the No. 3 and 1 spots to clinch the doubles point taking the 1-0 lead. 
 
In singles, UTEP got wins at the No. 2, 4, and 5 spots to clinch the win with the rest of the matches going unfinished. 
 
Isabelle Bahr was up in her match against Valdez at the No. 1 spot after winning the first set 6-3 but had her match stop midway through the second set. 
 
Karren was also up a set in her match against Sachica at the No. 3 spot after winning 7-6 but her match was stopped with the score 1-1 in the second.
 
Facing Seattle U
  • Seattle U is 0-12 on the season. 
  • Seattle U has already faced New Mexico State, Dixie State, Chicago State, and Grand Canyon in WAC play. 
  • Seattle U is 10-59 in singles play this season while posting a 4-30 record in doubles. 
  • Hannah Gianan, Peggy Rooke, and Aranza Sanabria lead the team with a pair of singles victories. 
  • Rooke and Hannah Grossman have teamed for a team-leading pair of doubles victories. 
  • UTRGV is 6-2 all-time against Seattle U in a series that dates back to 2009. 
  • UTRGV has won the last five matchups with the last win coming on March 24, 2019 in Phoenix. 
 
Facing Dixie State
  • Dixie State is 5-13 on the season. 
  • Dixie State is coming off of a 1-6 loss to Weber State. 
  • Their five wins this season have come against College of Idaho, Seattle U, Colorado Mesa (twice), and Chicago State. 
  • This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
